Winter is here, and we've got just the antidote: An escape to Tahiti this winter … for next to nothing.
One of our favorite-ever Delta SkyMiles flash sale is back on this brand new route to French Polynesia for as low as just 50,000 SkyMiles … roundtrip! And it's not just the new nonstop flight from Los Angeles (LAX) to Papeete (PPT) that's cheap: You can fly from many airports across the country for just 70,000 SkyMiles (or less) and back. So much for Delta SkyMiles being worthless, right?
Thrifty Traveler Premium+ members got first dibs on this deal, as always. But there are still plenty of dates available for a trip to Tahiti from late December all the way through mid-March if you want to put your SkyMiles towards a bucket list trip this winter and escape the cold.

Delta this summer announced it would launch its first nonstop flights to Tahiti this coming winter, thrilling paradise seekers and overwater villa lovers alike. And we've seen a slew of great sales to get you there and back.
Starting at 50,000 SkyMiles and back on the nonstop from Los Angeles (LAX), this is an absolute steal for a brand new route to one of the world's most sought-after destinations. But you can start nearby from San Francisco (SFO) or Las Vegas (LAS) or from Seattle (SEA) for just 60,000 SkyMiles roundtrip. From as far away as Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) or even Fargo (FAR) and Duluth (DLH), it's just 70,000 SkyMiles total.
Consider this: American Airlines would charge at least 80,000 AAdvantage miles for roundtrip to Tahiti. Using United miles, you can generally expect to use 100,000 miles or more.
So yeah, a trip to Tahiti and back for 50,000 or 70,0000 SkyMiles is a deal – especially when Delta itself $1,000 or more for many of these same flights.
Best of all, these are Delta main cabin economy award fares – no stingy basic economy awards here. That not only means you get free seat assignment as well as a free checked bag. If you're not 100% certain about a trip to Tahiti this winter, you could book these fares for cheap now … then cancel and get all your SkyMiles (plus taxes and fees) right back for free!
You won't find lie-flat business class seats for a bargain on these long flights into the Pacific Ocean – and the Boeing 767-300 that Delta flies on this route doesn't have the best Delta One seats. But it could easily be worth forking over as few as 2,000 SkyMiles for a Delta Comfort Plus seat.
Thrifty Tip: Got top Delta Medallion Status? See if you can use a Global Upgrade Certificate to upgrade to Delta Premium Select … and waitlist for a Delta One business class seat!
French Polynesia is wide-open to vaccinated travelers today with no additional testing requirements to enter – or to get home, either! Tahiti itself is dreamy, but it's also just a stone's throw from other amazing islands like Moorea, Rangiroa, and Bora Bora.
Even at 70,000 SkyMiles to get to Tahiti from the likes of Minneapolis is a bargain, considering it'd cost $1,100 or more to book those tickets with cash. One quick connection in Los Angeles and you're on your way to beautiful solitude.
Need SkyMiles to book this deal? If you've got some American Express Membership Rewards points from cards like The Platinum Card® from American Express or the American Express® Gold Card, you're in luck: Delta is an Amex transfer partner, which means you can instantly transfer 60,000 or 70,000 points to your Delta account to get all the miles you need.
Thrifty Tip: Make sure to use Delta’s “Price Calendar” feature when searching for award rates to find the best deals.

How To Book this Deal
Here’s a quick walkthrough on how to book.
First, head to Delta’s website and do a normal search from one of these airports. Be sure to click “Shop with Miles.”
Second, choose “Price Calendar” to maximize the dates viewable. You should easily be able to find availability from late December through mid-March of next year, though availability will vary depending on what departure city you're searching. Keep in mind that Delta only operates these flights to Tahiti on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays – you'll see some substantially higher pricing on other days … or no availability at all.
Bottom Line
Deals to use your SkyMiles don't get much better than this. A flight to paradise and back starting at just 50,000 SkyMiles? You can't beat that.

Booked my trip! Great deal!
Followed instructions but bottom line was 100,000 Miles return and connect through LAX from SEA.. No seat selection allowed on Delta site so no way to confirm or pick seat in comfort + …hmm theses deals always seem to be to good to be true.
Be sure you’re searching via desktop so you can use the Price Calendar function and see up to five weeks of availability – you will find some dates higher priced but we’re still seeing tons of availability from SEA at 60,000 miles.
